Arthur Gore, 9th Earl of Arran

Arthur Desmond Colquhoun Gore, 9th Earl of Arran MBE (* July 14, 1938 ) is a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party.

Life and career

Gore attended Eton College and then studied at Balliol College at the University of Oxford. He then served in the Grenadier Guards before he worked at various newspapers in management.

From 1972 to 1973 he was assistant manager of the Daily Mail, 1973-1974 Managing Director (Md ) by Clark Nelson and 1974 Assistant General Manager of the Sunday Express. Gore was from 1984 to 1987 director of Waterstone's & Co Ltd.. He was Chairman ( Chairman ) of the Waste Industry National Trading Organisation ( WInTO ). From 1995 to 1998 he was a non-executive director at HMV ( Thorn / EMI), 1996-1998 at Southwest Enterprise Ltd. and from 1997 to 2000 at Bonhams. 2005 was Gore Director of Weather World.

Membership in the House of Lords

In February 1983, Gore inherited when his father died the title of Earl of Arran. In the House of Lords he sits as Baron Sudley, as the earldom in the Peerage of Ireland belongs and is therefore not associated with the possibility of a hereditary seat in the House of Lords. His inaugural address was delivered on 28 November 1984. Topics of political interest as he calls on the website of the House of Lords media, welfare, sports and foreign affairs.

He took an active role in the conservative faction in the House of Lords. He was Lord -in- Waiting or the Government Whip from 1987 to 1989 and from July 1994 to January 1995. Between 1987 and 1989 he was also a spokesman for the Home Office, Department of Education and Science (DES) and Department of Health and Social Security ( DHSS ), and from 1988 to 1989 the Ministry of Environment.

From 1989 to 1994 he was Parliamentary State Secretary in the first defense (1989-1992) and then in the Ministry of Northern Ireland (1992-1994 ), and finally the Ministry of Environment (1994). From 1995 to 2000 he was parliamentary aide ( Parliamentary Consultant) at the Institute of Waste Management.

After the House of Lords Act 1999 he was appointed as one of the 90 hereditary peers who continue to have a seat and vote, elected. His presence is in the period from 2001 onwards in the middle.

Gore is currently (as of January 2012) Member of Lloyd's, member of the Trusteeship Council ( trustee ) of the Chelsea Physic Garden (1998) and various other trusts, as well as president of the Children's Country Holidays Fund.

Family

Gore is married and has two daughters. He and his wife operate Castle Hill, Filleigh.

Presumptive heir to his title ( Heir Presumptive ) was at first a distant cousin, Paul Annesley Gore. After his death in 2012, this is his son William Henry Gore ( b. 1950 ).
