Arthur Tovmasyan

Artur Babkeni Tovmasjan (Armenian Արթուր Բաբկենի Թովմասյան; born December 2, 1962 in Stepanakert ) is a politician and member of parliament of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh.

Life and career

He finished his schooling in the village Tschartar in Martuni. In 1986 he graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at the College of Education. After graduating from the University he worked as a physics teacher in middle school in the village Tschartar. In 1992 he defended his doctoral thesis and finished postgraduate study at the Institute of Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia. Artur Tovmasjan is Candidate of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics.

From 1993 to 1995 he worked at the Artsakh State University as the main lecturer of the Department of Physics and as Associate Dean of the Polytechnic Faculty.

Policy

In the elections to the third National Assembly in 1995 Artur Tovmasjan was elected deputy. He was vice chairman of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Budget and Finance and economy.

From 1996 to 1997 he was Chairman of the National Assembly. Since 1998 he worked as chairman of the department, as Vice-Rector for Teaching and as rector at the University of Shushi.

Since 2000 he is a lecturer of the Department of Structural Ingenierbau at Artsakh State University. From 2003 to 2009 he was Dean of the Faculty of the Polytechnic.

In the elections to the fourth National Assembly on 19 June 2005, he was elected as an MP. Artur Tovmasjan was a member of the Standing Committee of Foreign Relations and the Chairman of the Group " Hajreniq ". In the elections to the fifth National Assembly on 23 May 2010, he was elected by a majority system in the 12th constituency as an MP. On 10 June 2010 he was elected at the first meeting as Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly. He is a member of the faction " Hajreniq ". Artur Tovmasjan is the Chairman of the Athletics Association of the NKR.

A. Tovmasjan is co-founder of the party " Free Homeland" (Armenian asat hajreniq ) from 2005 to 2006, he was co-chairman of the party, and from 2007 to 2009 he was the chairman of the party since 2005 Tovmasjan is head of the party offices and committee member of the party.

He is Professor and Honorary Doctor of the branch of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in Armenia.

A. Tovmasjan is married and has two children.
