Arthur Wellesley, 4th Duke of Wellington

Arthur Charles Wellesley, 4th Duke of Wellington KG, GCVO (* March 15, 1849, † June 18, 1934 ) was a British peer.

Life and career

Wellesley was the second son of Charles Wellesley; his grandfather was Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, the victor of Waterloo and British Prime Minister. He was educated at Eton College from 1861 to 1866. In the following years he served with the Grenadier Guards in 1887 and reached the rank of colonel. Wellesley was Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire.

Wellesley inherited on June 8, 1900 the title of Duke of Wellington, when his older brother Henry died childless. He was married to Kathleen Emily Bulkeley Williams and had with her six children, including Arthur Charles Wellesley, 5th Duke of Wellington and Gerald Wellesley, 7th Duke of Wellington. In 1902 he was admitted to the Order of the Garter. 1934 Wellesley died in Ewhurst Park, Basingstoke, Hampshire.
