Arto Paasilinna

Arto Paasilinna ( born April 20, 1942 in Kittila ) is one of the most popular writers in Finland. He is often referred to as a "master of quirky humor " and was honored for his books with numerous national and international literary awards. So he got, for example, the Air Inter Prize in Bordeaux in 1998 and the Premio Giuseppe Acerbi Letterario in 1994.

His parents Väinö Paasilinna (formerly Gullstén ) and Hilda Maria ( Maija ), born Niva, working with the police. Paasilinna is father of two children, Jyrki Petteri (* 1964) and Janne (1967 ). He now lives in southern Finland Espoo near Helsinki Westend.

He trained at a newspaper and then worked as an editor at various newspapers and magazines. He has published 34 novels, many of which were filmed. His books have been translated into 45 languages ​​.

The Finnish literary criticism took no notice of him for a long time, which is only changed when Paasilinna novels also internationally, first in France, became popular. His language is simple, direct and marked by blunt - sharp and sometimes black humor. He devotes special attention to his compatriots and their idiosyncrasies.

Paasilinna has maintained for many years a regular publication policy, per year, a book was published after, mostly in the Finnish autumn. His most successful book is Jäniksen vuosi ( The Year of the Hare); it was translated into French, Estonian, Japanese, Dutch, English, German, Czech, Albanian, Icelandic, Swedish, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Hungarian, Danish, Croatian, Greek, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Slovenian, Russian and Galician translated.

The author Erno Paasilinna and the politician and MEP Reino Paasilinna are brothers of Arto Paasilinna.
