aRts

ARts (acronym for analog Real time synthesizer ) is a program that simulates an analog synthesizer under KDE. One of the most important components aRts is the so-called sound server that can mix several music channels simultaneously and in real time.

The sound server itself is denoted by artsd ( d for daemon ) and is also the default sound server for KDE 3 but He is independent and can also be used in other projects.

The future of aRts

In December 2004, the inventor and lead developer of aRts, Stefan Westerfeld, announced that he would leave the project because of fundamental design and technical problems.
