Arturo Kinch

Arturo Kinch ( born April 15, 1956 in Boulder (Colorado ), United States ) is a former winter sports and the first participant Costa Rica for Olympic Winter Games.

He was born as the seventh child of a product originating in Costa Rica missionary couple. From 1975 he went with a football scholarship to the rock Westmont College in Colorado, now part of Colorado Christian University. For Alpine Skiing came Kinch to keep fit in winter and eventually became the best skier of his colleges. In 1979 he received his degree in the subjects of Bible studies and leisure and summer camp organization ( camping and recreation ). To take part in international competitions he had founded in 1978 the Ski Association of Costa Rica.

In Lake Placid 1980 was Arturo Kinch 's first and only Olympic athlete Costa Rica. He started in the three alpine skiing downhill, giant slalom and slalom and reached the exit 41st At the Winter Games in Sarajevo in 1984 he formed together with the skiers Eduardo Kopper and the biathletes Hernan Carazo a small Costa Rican team. Kinch launched in the giant slalom and also held in the Nordic cross-country skiing over 15 km and 30 km. In the same disciplines he was four years later in Calgary in 1988 at the start. This was his last time being at the Olympics.

In view of the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City in 2002 near his home - Arturo Kinch works as a customer service representative for United Airlines in Denver - he began again in a few cross country races take part in order to qualify for the Games. In Salt Lake City, specifically in Soldier Hollow, he started the sprint and managed 67th place in the flow. In Turin in 2006, he represented Costa Rica for a fifth time at the Winter Olympics. As a nearly 50 -year-old he was in the classic cross-country skiing over 15 km of 95th and remained so last but one before the Thais Prawat Nagvajara.

His Alma Mater took Kinch 2004 in their Hall of Fame.
