Arturo Rodas

Arturo Rodas ( born March 3, 1954 in Quito ) is an Ecuadorian composer.

Life

His musical training took place at the Conservatory of Quito by Gerardo Guevara and the École Normale de Musique de Paris with Ginette Keller and Yoshihisa Taira. At the same time he studied with Mesias Maiguashca at CERM in Metz, at IRCAM in Paris and Luciano Berio at the Centre Acanthes in Aix -en- Provence (Summer 1983). He had a scholarship from the French government and UNESCO.

He taught, inter alia, Composition and electro-acoustics at the Universidad de Cuenca, composition at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Quito. At the same time he was a music critic and for three years ( 1986-89 ) he was the editor of the magazine Opus ( Banco Central del Ecuador). In Ecuador, he was one of the three " major composers to future generations ." He has lived in Quito, Paris, Rome, Panama, Cuenca and London.
