Artystone

Artystone (Greek Aρгνσгωη, Artaštuna Old Persian, Elamite Irtašduna ) was a daughter of the Persian king Cyrus II, sister or half-sister of Atossa and a wife of Darius I. She lived from the late 6th to the early 5th century BC.

Life

Artystone was the daughter of Cyrus II; her mother was probably Cassandane. It was therefore assigned to the Persian dynasty of the Achaemenids. Darius I called them after marriage as his favorite wife. Her husband, she gave birth to sons and Arsames Gobryas.

In Persepolis discovered Elamite administrative documents bear their seal. After these testimonies were large estates with several palaces in Persis to their possession and were managed by her personally. The dubbed twice as Princess Artystone also often seems - from time to time with her son Arschames II - to have aligned luxurious banquets. Her husband Darius I showed her his devotion by had erected a golden statue of her.
