Arvo Salo

Arvo Henrikki Jaakko Salo ( born 2 May 1932 in Merikarvia, Finland, † July 9, 2011 ) was a Finnish journalist, writer and politician of the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP ).

Life

Salo worked after school and studied as a journalist and was editor of the student newspaper Ylioppilaslehti in the most widely circulated and influential newspaper Helsingin Sanomat as well as Uutispäivä Demari, the party newspaper of the SDP. For his work as a journalist and his articles he received in 1964 the Eino Leino Prize - and the journalists of the weekly price Suomen Kuvalehti.

The mid-1960s he began his writing career. His literary works include poetry, lyrics, and drama. He created the Lapualaisooppera (1966 ) is a milestone in the history of radical theater in Finland.

In addition to his literary career, Salo committed as a politician in the Social Democratic Party of Finland and was first chosen for this 1966 in the Finnish Parliament, where he served initially until 1970. Between 1979 and 1983 he was again deputy of the SDP in the parliament as well as from 31 December 1982 to May 6, 1983 Minister of Culture in the third cabinet of Prime Minister Kalevi Sorsa.
