Aryamani

Aryamani was a Nubian king.

He is mainly known only from a stele that was found in Kawa. Then nine years of rule are occupied. The stele is described with Egyptian hieroglyphs, but the text is very difficult to read. It seems that the knowledge of the Egyptian language and the hieroglyphs were at that time not very good. A second stele was found in two fragments ( see picture, the other fragment is still locally) from Kawa is attributed to him, but this is due to stylistic similarities and is therefore not secured. On this second stele a 24th year of reign is called.

The title and name of the ruler are inspired by the Egyptian Ramesside Period. The exact classification of Aryamani remains uncertain. It has been suggested on the one hand, that the king dated to the period shortly after the Egyptian New Kingdom and perhaps even identical with Alara, on the other hand, it is set in the 4th century BC, subsided into a time when the knowledge of hieroglyphic writing.
