Aryeh Kaplan

Aryeh Kaplan ( born October 23, 1934 in New York City; † 28 January 1983) was an Orthodox rabbi and American writers. He is recognized as an unusually productive and original teacher. His work ranges from studies of the Torah and the Talmud to work on mysticism and philosophy. He has published over 50 books on topics of Jewish mysticism and religion.

Biography

Kaplan was born in the Bronx as a descendant of a Sephardic family from Salonika with roots in Recanati and studied at Jewish institutions in Brooklyn and then in Jerusalem. There he was also ordained as a rabbi. He was also temporarily the editor of Jewish Life Magazine. Previously, he earned a master's degree in physics and was then the youngest working for the government physicist, but decided to devote himself entirely to the teaching of the Torah. On January 28, 1983, he died unexpectedly at the age of only 48 years.
