Ash Hill, New Zealand

Probably one of the last visible remains of the Ash Hill, view from the Ash Road.

The Ash Ash Hill or Hill Crater is one of the volcanoes of the Aucklandfeldes. The low tuff cone with a 150 -m-wide explosion crater is now built over by industry and largely demolished.

The once about 30 m high peaks towered over the surrounding area by only about 8 meters.

Ash Hill was named by Earnest J. Searle after the nearby Ash Road. This in turn is after ash (English "Ash" ) named, not after volcanic ash. Dating by the radiocarbon method given his age to be 31,800 / - 159 years, that's a similar age as that of the nearby Matukutururu.
