Ashton, Gardner and Dyke

Ashton, Gardner & Dyke were a jazz - rock band that was founded by Tony Ashton, who had worked with John Barry, Chris Farlowe and The Remo Four, 1968 in London. Kim Gardner had previously played with The Birds, The Creation, and Santa Barbara Machine Head. Roy Dyke had also played with The Remo Four.

Due to disagreements between the band and their manager Vince Melouney, the guitarist of the Bee Gees was the debut album Ashton Gardner and Dyke could not appear until 1969. The follow-up single Resurrection Shuffle sold well. Until then, the band with live performances drew attention to himself, which was completed by Dave Caswell (trumpet, flugelhorn, banjo), Lyle Jenkins (saxophone, flute ) and Mick Lieber ( guitar) and a blues and jazz -influenced Hard Rock played. The second album, The Worst of Ashton, Gardner & Dyke, was published in 1971, the band of Chris Barber, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Stan Webb was supported. The album presents a rough blues-rock.

In 1972, the last album What a Bloody Long Day It's Been came on the market and fell far short of expectations.

On 28 May 2001 Tony Ashton died in London of cancer. A few months later, on 24 October 2001, died bassist Kim Gardner of cancer. Roy Dyke is active in his adopted hometown of Hamburg in various projects.
