Ashy black titi

The dark gray titi ( Callicebus cinerascens ) is a primate of the genus within the family of titi monkeys Sakiaffen ( Pitheciidae ).

Features

Dark gray titi monkeys are like all titi monkeys relatively small primate with thick, fluffy fur. This is mainly colored dark gray in this way at the back it goes towards brown. The tail is bushy and longer than the body, it can not be used as a prehensile tail. The head is small and round. There are beard -like hairs that are not contrasting, but also colored gray in contrast to related species on the cheeks and the throat.

Distribution and habitat

Dark gray titi monkeys are found in Brazil exclusively in the Amazon basin. Its distribution area is bordered by the Rio Aripuanã and to the east of the Rio Tapajós in the north of the Rio Madeira, in the west. Their habitat are deeper forests.

Way of life

The lifestyle of the Dark Dusky Titi monkey is hardly known, it should match the rest of the titi monkeys. They are diurnal and arboreal, moving either on all fours or with jumps through the branches. They live in family groups that consist of a long-standing monogamous pair and the common offspring. They are territorial, with common duet songs, the pairs other animals on their own territory back.

Their diet consists primarily of fruits. To a lesser extent they also take leaves, seeds and insects to him. As with all titi monkeys, the father should closely involved in the rearing of the young, he is the main carrier and passes the child of the mother only for suckling.
