Aspects of Love is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on the novel by David Garnett. The texts written Don Black and Charles Hart.

Content

The young Englishman Alex learns the venerated by him in France, know unsuccessful theater actress Rose. He told her about the orphaned Villa near the Pyrenees his uncle George, an art forger, in which they surreptitiously enter and spend a romantic time. When the uncle there surprised he bothered not to their stay, even though he secretly has a crush on Rose. Since Rose is apparently forced to leave because of professional commitments, Alex and Rose disconnect.

Two years have passed. Alex makes again holiday in France and wants to visit his uncle in his villa. There, however, it opens Rose, who has found in his uncle the man of her life. Alex tries to regain Rose and quarreled with his uncle George, who admits defeat for Alex. But Rose does not want to give up George, she travels after him and both get married.

After 13 years, meet Alex and the now celebrated actress Rose each other in a Paris theater. Rose, who is still happy with George, meanwhile, has a teenage daughter, Jenny. Rose invites Alex, whose villa to visit her and his uncle George. There, he met Jenny. Despite the age difference of twenty years, both fall in love in the next two years. When they spend the night together and George learns this, he suffers a heart attack in which he died.

At the funeral, Alex meets the muse of his deceased uncle, Giulietta. They draw closer and Juliet brings him to end the affair with Roses daughter. Rose asks Alex to stay with her, but has now decided to Giulietta.

Productions

The premiere took place on 17 April 1989 at the Prince of Wales Theatre, London with Michael Ball in the role of Alex instead. In the course participated in this production ( and later in the Broadway production ), among others, Sarah Brightman. The final curtain fell in London on 20 June 1992.

The Broadway premiere was held at the Broadhurst Theatre on April 8, 1990. The government took over Trevor Nunn. On Broadway, the show ran until March 2, 1991 - that is relatively short in contrast to Webber's earlier works - and proved to be a financial disaster. The show was nominated for six Tony Awards, but received none.

The German -language premiere was held at the Dresden State Operetta on 15 May 1997. The German translation was written by Michael Kunze. Another German -language production was in the Stadttheater Bern ( Switzerland ). Here the role of Rose of Maya Hakvoort was embodied. Overall, the musical in German-speaking countries has remained relatively unknown.

Others

For the role of George Roger Moore was initially set in the world premiere cast. He left the production, however, shortly before the premiere because he was ultimately overwhelmed by the vocal requirements.

1988, when Webber came to the German premiere of The Phantom of the Opera in Vienna, he produced with the Orchestra of the United Stages Vienna, the first recording to Aspects of Love.

Music

The most famous melody of the musical is " Love Changes Everything " on German as "Look what love can change " - known - performed by Jürgen Marcus. The piece begins and ends with this melody.

The Quartet "Falling" in the second act is generally considered one of the greatest vocal challenges for musical performers.
