Asphodelus

White asphodel ( Asphodelus albus)

Asphodel ( asphodel ) is a plant genus in the subfamily Asphodelus ( Asphodeloideae ) from the family of the grass tree plants ( Xanthorrhoeaceae ).

Description

The asphodel - species are mostly perennial, herbaceous plant with a thickened rhizome or one-to two -year-old plants with fibrous roots. You have basal, rosette -like arrangement of leaves. In contrast to the species of the genus Asphodeline the flowers have the same length stamens.

The flowers are borne in racemose or paniculate inflorescences. The hermaphrodite flowers are triple. The six bracts are white or pale pink. In contrast to the species of the genus Asphodeline the flowers have the same length stamens. There shall be spherical, leathery and dreifächerige fruit capsules which contain the black tetrahedral seeds.

Occurrence

The occurrence of asphodel species extends to the entire Mediterranean region, and thence eastwards to India.

There are 16 species in the genus asphodel, which can be divided into five sections:

Sect. asphodel

  • Asphodel aestivus bread. is endemic to the southwestern Iberian Peninsula.
  • White asphodel ( Asphodelus albus million ), with homes in the sub-Mediterranean Europe.
  • Asphodel bento - rainhae P.Silva, with home in the central Portugal and neighboring Spain.
  • Cherries - asphodel ( asphodel cerasiferus J.Gay ), with home in Spain, France, Corsica, sardines, Morocco and Algeria.
  • Asphodel gracilis Brown - Blanq. & Maire, with home in northern Morocco.
  • Asphodel lusitanicus Cout. , With home in Portugal and Galicia.
  • Asphodel macrocarpus Parl, with home in Morocco, Portugal, Spain, the Mediterranean and Atlantic France and Italy.
  • Branched Asphodel or Kleinfrüchtiger asphodel ( Asphodelus ramosus L.) (syn. asphodel aestivus auct., A. microcarpus Viv. ), Widespread in the Mediterranean area.
  • Wolley - Dod serotinus asphodel, with home in the Western and Central Iberian Peninsula.

Sect. Verineopsis

  • Asphodel roseus Humbert & Maire, with home in southern Spain and northern Morocco.

Sect. Verinea

  • Asphodel ayardii Jahand. & Maire, with homes in the western Mediterranean.
  • Asphodel -tube ( asphodel fistulosus L.), widespread in the Mediterranean area, dragged to other continents.
  • . Asphodel tenuifolius Cav, with homes in the Mediterranean and Saharan North Africa and the south of Spain, Greece, Southwest Asia to North India; deported to Australia.

Sect. Clausonia

  • Asphodel acaulis Desf. , With home in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.

Sect. Plagiasphodelus

  • Asphodel refractus Boiss., With home in the desert areas of North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
  • Asphodel viscidulus Boiss., With home in the desert areas of North Africa from eastern Algeria to the north- west of the Arabian Peninsula.
