Asprilio Pacelli

Asprilio Pacelli (* 1570 in Vasciano (part of Stroncone ), Umbria, † May 4, 1623 in Warsaw ) was an Italian conductor and composer.

He received his musical training probably in Rome, where he worked since 1594 as Kapellmeister at various churches, most recently on St. Peter's Basilica. After a short time in this position, asked him the King of Poland, Sigismund III. , To take over the management of his chapel. Pacelli followed this request and spent the last twenty years of his life in Krakow and Warsaw. The chapel had been passed against him by Luca Marenzio and stood up musically high level. Pacelli it was able to maintain this standard.

He created an extensive body of work, of which, however, a large proportion should be lost. Get some madrigals, motets and psalms and other works in collections. Stylistically was Pacelli in Roman tradition, his works are of great musical and technical quality and exerted a strong influence on the development of music in Poland. Despite the great importance for the Polish music history Pacelli's work has been documented only on a CD. The Koblenz Baroque Ensemble Cappella Confluentes produced in 2004 a live CD with a reconstructed Easter Vespers of 1615, the psalms for double Pacelli from a print of 1598 ( Motectorum et qui Psalmorum octonis vocibus ) still clearly show the influence of his Roman period.
