The Assab volcanic field located at the southern tip of the country of Eritrea, a few kilometers from the coast of the Red Sea.

A chain of basaltic cinder cones, whose highest peak is 987 meters high, stretches from the outskirts of the port city of Assab far to the east. The associated lava field covers an area of ​​55 × 90 km, lava flows reached the sea-coast at various points near the city.
