Assembly of the Poor

The Assembly of the Poor ( English for " Assembly of the Poor", abbreviated as AOP) is an NGO in Thailand, which represents the interests of the poor. Your goal is to involve the less well-off people in Thailand also the process of economic development in Thailand, so they too have the opportunity to benefit from it.

General

Founded as the AOP on December 10 ( Human Rights Day ) in 1995; Four days later a declaration against the controversial Pak Mun dam was adopted on Mun River.

The AOP is committed by organizing demonstrations, discussion forums, etc. for greater attention to the interests of marginalized sections of the population and a high priority to poverty reduction. She is a member of Via Campesina.

The women's group of the AOP (Women's Group of the Assembly of the Poor ) was among the nominees of the project 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.

Network

Seven networks belong to the Assembly of the Poor. These are:

  • Network of the dam projects concerned
  • Network of unsafe and unhealthy working conditions affected
  • Network of slum dwellers
  • Network of those affected by the forest management policy
  • Network of those affected by the land management policy
  • Network for local fishing
  • Network for alternative agriculture.
