Assin South District

Assin South District is one of 13 districts in the Central Region of Ghana. It is bordered by the districts of Assin North, Twifo / Heman / Lower Denkyira, Upper Denkyira, Asikuma / Odoben / Brakwa, Ajumako / Enyan / Essiam, Mfantsiman and Abura / Asebu / Kwamankese in the Central Region. Chief Executive of the district is Millicent A. Kuranchie.

The Assin South was only founded in 2004 by decree of 12 November 2003 by President John Agyekum Kufuor of the former District Assin. Also from this former district of the Assin North District was formed.

Population

In the district there are six traditional territories of Upper chiefs ( Paramount Chief's ) in Asankare, Asuboa, Bompata, Gyadam, Obogu and Ofoase.

Constituencies

In the district of Assin South in an eponymous constituency was established. In the constituency Assin South won Prof. Dominic Fobih, Minister of Education, Sports and Science in Ghana, for the party New Patriotic Party (NPP ) in the 2004 parliamentary elections the seat in the Ghanaian parliament.
