Association of Galilée Valley communes

The Communauté de communes du Val de Galilée is a municipal merger ( Communauté de communes ) of ten municipalities in the department of Vosges in Lorraine.

The Local Government Association has 3957 inhabitants (2007) to 84.01 km ², which corresponds to a population density of 47 inhabitants per km ². Seat of the Association is the community of Ban de Laveline, president of the local association Jean -Jacques Daillot.

The member municipalities are located between Saint- Dié -des-Vosges and the crest of the Vosges Mountains in the Valley of Fave and its side valleys. Except for the communities raves, Frapelle and Neuvillers -sur- Fave the territory of the local association is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

The Local Government Association was established on 29 December 1997 under the name Communauté de communes des Vallées de la Morte et du Blanc Rû from the three communities Ban-de- Laveline Gemaingoutte and Wisembach. Two years later, the communities Bertrimoutier, Combrimont, Frapelle, Lesseux, Nauvillers -sur- Fave and raves were added. Here, the association was renamed.

In the 7th century monks penetrated into the valleys of the Vosges. So also the hermit Deodatus came to Saint -Dié -des- Vosges. The valley east of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges was called by the monks of Galilee Valley (Val de Galilée ).

On 1 January 2003 the municipality of Croix -aux -Mines was taken as the tenth member of the Local Government Association, whose aim is to combine the material resources of the community and to coordinate the economic and tourist development. To the field of the local association includes the planning and the cross-community economic development. The Communauté de communes du Val de Galilée has also set a goal to work in the fields of housing and energy efficiency, culture, health and welfare, environmental protection and waste management closely.
