Assunção dos Anjos

Assunção Afonso dos Anjos (* 1946 in Luanda ) is an Angolan diplomat and politician.

Biography

Dos Anjos graduated in law at the Universities of Coimbra and Lisbon.

After joining the diplomatic service, he became in 1975 director of the Department for Africa and the Middle East at the State Department. After working as director of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister José Eduardo dos Santos from 1978 to 1979 as well as a simultaneous further short stint as director of the Office of the Minister of Planning in 1979 he was head of the office of José Eduardo dos Santos, as this 1979 successor of Agostinho Neto President of Angola was.

After 14 years in this office, he returned in 1993 back in the diplomatic service and was to 2000, Ambassador to Spain. After he was then ambassador to France, in 2002, he was appointed ambassador to Portugal.

On 1 October 2008 he was appointed to succeed the longtime Foreign Minister João Bernardo de Miranda. Dos Anjos is also a member of the Central Committee of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola ( MPLA ). In 2010 he was replaced as Foreign Minister by George Chicoti.
