Small Astrantia ( Astrantia minor)

The Small Astrantia ( Astrantia minor) is a species of the genus Astrantia ( Astrantia ) in the carrot family ( Apiaceae ).

Features

The Small Astrantia is a tender perennial herbaceous plant, the plant height can reach up to 40 centimeters. The stem is bare, branches from the middle and ends in a two-to four-rayed cymes. The basal leaves are long-petiolate and five to neunspaltig shared. The sections are narrowly lanceolate and deeply cut in the upper part, the middle three are down to the bottom free. The stem leaves are smaller and easier. The 10 to 20 bracts are pointed and very narrow. They are about the same length as the flowers and the share freely. The calyx teeth are ovate mucronate and dull.

The flowering period extends from July to August.

Occurrence

The Small Astrantia occurs in the Pyrenees, the Alps and in southwestern North Apennines. In Germany it is missing. It grows on dry, more or less lime-free soils in open forests at altitudes up to about 2700 meters.
