Features
Butterfly
The wingspan of the moth is 51-64 mm. Front and rear wings have on top and bottom of a brown color. You are provided with some indistinct blackish-brown transverse lines. Specific type is a large yellow spot on Tornus the rear wing on the bottom is in particular very noticeable.
Caterpillar
Full-grown caterpillars have a yellow color. The brown head is provided with a number of eye-spots.
Distribution and occurrence
The range of the species extends from Texas south to Argentina. It also occurs in the West Indies. Astraptes anaphus preferred inhabited tropical forests and scrubland.
Way of life
The moths fly in South Texas from April to October, in Mexico and further south in several generations. You like to suck on flowers or excrement. The caterpillars feed on Leguminosae ( Fabaceae ). For Mexico, for example, kudzu ( Pueraria montana var lobata ) ( " creeping wild bean" ) is named as a food plant for Brazil wild beans.
