Asynchronous Serial Interface

The interface Asynchronous Serial Interface, short ASI, refers to a data format for streaming of video data, usually as an MPEG Transport Stream (MPEG -TS), for example, in the transmission of television content in the digital cable DVB -C.

An ASI signal can carry one or multiple SD or HD video programs or audio programs. The data transfer rate can be determined individually. Basically, the ASI signal the end product of a video compression (MPEG -2 or MPEG -4), for further transmission, for example via satellite or broadband cable.
