The headwaters of the Atchuelinguk Rivers is located south of Norton Sound in the Nulato Hills. It runs largely parallel to approximately 30 km west located Andreafsky River southward and flows Pilot Station in the Yukon - Kuskokwim Delta in the Yukon.
The name of the original inhabitants of the river was documented in 1916 by RH Sargent from the United States Geological Survey as " Chuilanuk ", which translates as " unadulterated water". The spelling was later changed to " Atchuelinguk " to better reflect the pronunciation.
