Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are one in Atlanta ( Georgia) based basketball team in the American professional league NBA.

Team History

The Hawks in 1946 were founded as Tri -Cities Blackhawks in the then named as the Tri -Cities (now the Quad Cities ), consisting of the cities of Moline and rock Iceland in Illinois and Davenport, Iowa. Originally played the franchise in the National Basketball League ( NBL ), but moved to the end of the NBL in 1949 in the NBA, and reached there in the 1949/50 season under the leadership of Red Auerbach, the play-offs. Therefore Ben Kerner moved, the owner of the team, the team to Milwaukee, where they set out from the season 1951/52, under the name of Milwaukee Hawks. 1953 chose the Hawks from Draft with Bob Pettit, although a future winner of the MVP trophy, were still not very successful and due to the rapidly increasing popularity of the new resident Baseball Club Milwaukee Braves to Kerner decided, however, to move the team again and moved the team to the 1955/56 season to St. Louis. In 1957 the team reached the finals for the first time, lost the series with 3:4 against the Boston Celtics. In the following season, the season in 1957/58, the team won the only recipient of the NBA title after the Celtics were defeated.

In the years 1960 and 1961, the team was able to reach the Finals, this once again lost against the Celtics. 1968 finally parted Ben Kerner of the Hawks and gave their sale to the then governor of Georgia Carl Sanders on 3 May. The Hawks moved to Atlanta and then to today's Atlanta Hawks were born. There was virtually a " reunion " with the Braves, who had moved to Atlanta also. In the first two years in Atlanta, the team reached the Division Finals lost this against the Los Angeles Lakers and missed so narrowly the NBA Finals. In 1982, the Hawks received with Dominique Wilkins a real superstar and were among the best teams in the league.
