Nuclear power is a British new-wave -of- British -Heavy- Metal and Thrash Metal Band from Newcastle upon Tyne, which was founded in 1979 under the name of Moral Fibre, in 1988, broke up and got together again in 2005.

History

The band was, at that time, founded by bassist and vocalist Tony Dolan and drummer Paul Spillett under the name of moral fiber as a punk project in the summer of 1979. After some line-up changes Chris Taylor came as the guitar player for the band. After Taylor had returned from a trip to Bremen, he brought for Dolan and Spillet with plaques bearing the terms nuclear power? No thanks had. Then the band changed its name to nuclear power. Shortly after Taylor left the band again. Dolan and Spillett wrote shortly afterwards on new songs and looking for a new guitarist, the Dolan took place at the Art Academy in Steve White. Also bassist Mark Irvine was recruited to the School of Art; after it had joined the band, Dolan rose from the bass to the rhythm guitar. It was followed by four performances in this cast, before Irvine left the band again and again Dolan moved to bass. After that, the band rehearsed in the house of a friend. Also, now followed by regular appearances in the neighborhood, and the band was working on their first demo. This was added to the Impulse Studios in 1981, where Keith Nicol has worked as a producer, and released under the name Demon. This was followed by more appearances along with bands like Warrior. In early 1983, the band went back into the Impulse Studios to record the demo Total Metal. After the recordings, White met with Neat Records Sam Kress, who led a magazine called Whiplash; White gave him a copy of Total Metal, Kress and promised him a review in Whiplash. Towards the end of 1983, Steve White left the band for personal reasons. As Dolan thought it would be over now with the band, he moved to Canada.

In 1984, Spillett Dolan followed by Canada. They wrote to the new songs, and Dolan was a band with the also gave several concerts; However, he came after a short time to realize that he would have to return to England when he wanted to pursue nuclear power because there is better and more aggressive the atmosphere. Accordingly, he returned in late 1984 to go back there. He separated from Spillet because its guitar playing had remained at the same level and Dolan would need more to make light of the metal explosion to compete as part of the NWOBHM. As Dolan Neat Records visited to ask for an available drummer, he met Conrad " Cronos " Lant from Venom, with which he switched his electric guitar to a bass. Dolan wrote later that the guitar was good, the bass on the other hand " a piece of shit "; Dolan destroyed this bass later at the gig with Slayer at the Marquee Club. Cronos mediated Dolan also the drummer Ged Wolf, who was the brother of Venom's manager and a new band was looking for, since he had left TYSONDOG after the completion of their debut album. The band needed a guitarist; after several candidates that were unsuitable and therefore were not included, the 16 -year-old guitarist Rob Mathew joined the band, so the band in 1985 was represented in this occupation on the debut album Future Warriors. After the band had worked about one months long of songs, was a first demo, which was recorded in Neat Records' recording studio and appeared under the name Pour the Metal In. Dave Woods of Neat Records became aware of the band, so that the group reached a contract with that label. After that, the band worked on their debut album Future Warriors. The band went into the studio for a few weeks to pick it up, with Keith Nichol worked as a producer. After the album's release was followed by a tour with Venom and Exodus. After the tour the band recorded with Your Mentor on another demo. As Dolan with the band was about to step out of the shadow of Venom and Wolf and Mathew is this even wanted to approach even more, Dolan left the band. Neat Records released the demo Your not yet been published on the mentor Powertrax compilation. Ian Swift ( Avenger ) and Alan Hunter Tysondogs here were represented as a singer, while DC Rage joined the band as bassist. Then, the band released the EP Queen of Death. To this end, the song Future Warriors has been added, where Swift took over the vocals. The songs Demolition, Funeral Pyre and Mode 3 still could be heard Dolan. In addition, with Queen of Death and Protector EP contained two new songs. However, the band was never to see her live in this lineup. After that, Ged Cook and Ian Swift went to Dolan, who asked him if he wanted to return to the band again with Swift should do the vocals and Dolan DC Rage should be replaced on bass. As Dolan had already written six songs, but he could not find a suitable label, he agreed. Then the band went into the studio to record the EP Conductors of Noize. This was followed by a tour with Agent Steel and Nuclear Assault. Video recordings of this tour were published under the name Conductors of Noize. The band also played at Dynamo Open Air along with Testament, Destruction and Stryper. Then, the band needed a second guitarist for their next album Atomized, so DC Rage came back as a bass player for the band and Dolan played the electric guitar. This was followed by a European tour in 1988, along with Nasty Savage and Exhumer. In addition, the band played the first British band behind the Iron Curtain. After this Swift left the band and Dolan was asked if he wanted to come as a singer to Venom, because Cronos had left the band. Dolan joined in 1988 Venom, which led to the dissolution of nuclear power and Atomized never appeared. Swift, however, was a butcher, while Rob Mathew worked as a street musician. In 2004, a best-of compilation was released Total Metal: The Neat Anthology via Sanctuary Records. In 2005, the band reunited.

Style

Under the name of Moral Fibre, the band played punk; saw in this time Dolan Motörhead on their first tour and expressed in retrospect, this was everything he had ever wanted from a band. The debut album Future Warriors was mixed with minimal guitar sound and heavy weight on the drums and poorly produced. Although it tended to speed metal or thrash metal, their repertoire was not limited to this style; Pieces such as Total Metal and Pour the Metal In much more to other British bands like Raven and tank than later American bands like Metallica or Slayer, and Star Child and This Planet 's Burning are closer in pace and melodies varied and contemporary bands like Blitzkrieg or TYSONDOG. In Slayer fanzine music, however, was described as " not -very-good mix of Venom / Tank / Motörhead ". In general, the Newcastle are initially was not just critics darlings. Titles such as Requiem, The Cage and Vision of Belshazzar from the third album, however, are more reminiscent of Bay Area thrash metal bands like Exodus and Forbidden than Raven or Venom.
