ATypI

The Association Typographique International ( ATypI ) is an international typographic society.

History

It was established in 1957 originally Typeface (font foundry ) established with the aim to organize an annual main meeting and to serve the community as a typographic network. Culture, tradition and history of fonts and typography should be preserved.

In the 1980s and 90s, type designers and typographers independent were joined to society. Today, the ATypI of members of the typographic community is composed, in particular typeface designer, representative of the foundries, graphic designers and typographers from 40 nations.

The annual conference is held every year in a different city, which usually has a typographical importance. The event is organized each supported by local members and institutions. The conferences were held in Reykjavik (2011), Dublin (2010), Mexico City ( 2009), St. Petersburg (2008) and Brighton (2007), previous events in Paris (1989, 1974, 1967, 1960, 1959), San Francisco (1994 ), Berlin ( 1983) and Lausanne ( 1957) instead. The next conference will take place in 2012 either in Hong Kong or Yerevan.

All four or five years gives the Prix Charles Peignot ATypI for Excellence in Type Design a font designer who is younger than 35 years and has made ​​an outstanding contribution to type design. The previous winners were Claude Mediavilla (1982 ), Jovica Veljović (1985 ), Petr van Blokland (1988 ), Robert Slimbach (1991 ), Carol Twombly (1994 ), Jean François Porchez (1998), Jonathan Hoefler (2002 ) and Christian Schwartz (2007).

The ATypI is an international non - profit organization. Your elected Board of Directors and its members are spread around the world and organized. Both the organization and the conferences will be held in English mainly.
