Aubure

Aubure (German Altweier ) is a commune with 376 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Alsace region in the department of Haut-Rhin. It belongs to the district Ribeauvillé and is a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Ribeauvillé.

Geography

Aubure is situated at 800 meters above sea level and is the highest village in the Vosges. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges. Neighboring communities of Aubure are Sainte-Croix- aux -Mines in the northwest and north, Ribeauvillé in the east, in the southeast of Riquewihr and Fréland the southwest and west.

History

Aubure was first mentioned in 1217 as in Alburiis. By 1300, ie, the location on a map Altpur.

Destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, it found new wealth through agriculture and medical remedies.

East of the town there is a castle ruin Bilstein. The castle was built in the 12th century and was destroyed in 1636.
