Audrey Mestre

Audrey Mestre- Ferreras ( born August 11, 1974 in Saint- Denis, France, † October 12, 2002 in La Romana, Dominican Republic) was a Apnoetaucherin and multiple world record holder.

Mestre already learned to swim early ( 2 years ) and scuba diving ( at age 13 ). After moving her family, she spent her youth in Mexico City. She studied marine biology at the University of La Paz her thesis she wrote about the pressure-induced changes in the lung tissue in apnea divers.

In 1996 she met the Cuban exile freediver Francisco Ferreras, called Pipin, with whom they later pulled together to Miami and married him in 1999. She began under his aegis seriously and practically to deal with the freediving.

In 2000, she turned in her discipline with 125 m to a new low record for women, which she with 130 m outdid itself in 2001.

In October 2002 she began off the coast of the Dominican Republic with the arrangements for a new record attempt. Even while it reached 166 m, a depth not seen before. In their actual record attempt she reached on 12 October 2002, the depth of 171 m. During the ascent there were technical problems with the air-filled balloon, which should make the climb, but got stuck after a few meters. As a result, she was inspired by the usual immersion time of about 4 minutes even at a depth of about 120 m. After 8 minutes, it was brought unconscious to the surface. At the hospital they were declared dead, the doctors just yet.

She was cremated and the ashes scattered in the sea.

Pipin Ferreras Francisco published in 2004 a book entitled Tiefenrausch by describing not only the life story of his wife, but also their passion for freediving.
