August Lenz

August Lenz ( born November 29, 1910 in Dortmund, † December 5, 1988 ) was a German football player. He was striker for Borussia Dortmund and the first German national player of the club.

With his club he joined in 1936 on the Gauliga, establishing itself in his time with Borussia Dortmund in the German top flight. According to legend, Ernst Kuzorra to have in 1938 asked the chairman of FC Schalke 04, Fritz Unkel, to bring Lenz to Schalke, which latter, however, has never really considered because of its association ties; the interest of the most successful Eleven of those years documented in any case Lenz's footballing quality.

The Second World War interrupted, as with many other players the career of August Lenz. After the war, he could once again build on its earlier successes, still played in the first years of the Oberliga West as a regular player for Borussia Dortmund and scored 32 goals.

1947 August Lenz won with his club the championship against Schalke Westphalia. In the seasons 1947/48 and 1948/49, he won the championship in the new Oberliga West. In this league, Lenz was in 1948 with 22 goals scorer. In 1949, he was with Borussia Dortmund in the final of the German Cup against VfR Mannheim, which was, however, lost 3-2 ( after extra time ). After August Lenz finished his career at the age of 38 years.

Between 1935 and 1938, he ran 14 times for the German national soccer team in scoring 9 goals. After a 0-2 against Norway at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, where Adolf Hitler prematurely left the directors' box, he fell into disgrace and was not considered as a selection players. 1937 Lenz played yet in a propaganda game between the national team and a selection of SA, on the part of the SA - selection.

After his playing career, Lenz operation for 33 years a pub at Borsigplatz in Dortmund. The face of August Lenz is now beside the city of Eagle with BVB emblem logo Dortmund Ultra - Fangruppierung The Unity. The house on the Strobelallee, which formerly served as the office of Borussia Dortmund and now houses a fan shop, a restaurant, is named after him. Furthermore, even those now closed, pub by The Unity was named after him. It was called Lenz exchange.
