August of Saxony

Augustus of Saxony (* September 7, 1589 in Dresden, † December 26, 1615 in Naumburg ) from the Albertine line of the Wettin was administrator of the diocese of Naumburg.

Life

August was the youngest son of the Elector Christian I of Saxony (1560-1591) from his marriage to Sophie (1568-1622), daughter of the Elector Johann Georg of Brandenburg. His older brothers Christian II and Johann Georg I were successively Elector of Saxony. From August latter received an annual pension of 21,000 florins and the Office Senftenberg.

He married on 1 January 1612 Dresden Elisabeth ( 1593-1650 ), daughter of Duke Heinrich Julius of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel. The marriage remained childless.

August studied at the University of Wittenberg, where Wolfgang Hirsch Bach entrusted the task of leading the young nobleman in his training. During this time he led the winter semester 1601-1606 the rector of the university, the academic presence of the Office led a pro-rector. He died before the age of 26 of a sudden death in Dresden and was buried in Freiberg Cathedral.
