August Wilhelm Knoch

August Wilhelm Knoch ( born June 8, 1742 in Braunschweig, † June 2, 1818 ) was a German naturalist and professor of physics at the Collegium Carolinum.

Life

Knoch, son of the Brunswick court preacher Georg Knoch, concluded the study of theology in Leipzig with honors and worked in Braunschweig as a tutor at the Privy v. Hoym. In 1775 he was first employed at the Carolinum as a janitor, which gave him the opportunity to devote himself more fully to its inclination to the natural sciences.

Knoch worked in the field of entomology and his precise observations of the 1781-1783 three -volume work published posts created for insect history. In 1789 he was appointed professor of physics. His work New contributions to entomology appeared 1801.
