Auguste Haouissée

Auguste Haouissée SJ ( born October 1, 1877 in Évran, France, † September 10, 1948 ) was a French religious clergyman and first bishop of Shanghai.

Life

Auguste Haouissée joined the Congregation of the Jesuits and received on 10 June 1910, the ordination. Pope Pius XI. appointed him coadjutor in 1928 by the then Apostolic Vicariate in Nanjing and appointed him titular bishop of Cercina. He received his episcopal consecration on October 3, 1928 Bishop Henri Lecroart SJ, Vicar Apostolic of Chi -Li; Co-consecrators were Bishop Adeodat -Jean -Roch Wittner, OFM, Vicar Apostolic of Shantung, and Bishop André- Jean -François Defebvre CM, Apostolic Vicar of Ningpo.

1931 he was appointed Vicar Apostolic in Nanjing; 1933 Vicar Apostolic in Shanghai. After the survey of the Vicariate to the diocese of Shanghai Shanghai on April 11, 1946, he was called by Pope Pius XII. appointed as its first Bishop.
