Augusto d'Halmar

Augusto Goemine Thomson, better known as Augusto d' Halmar ( born April 23, 1882 in Santiago de Chile, † January 27, 1950 ) was a Chilean writer. He was a representative of naturalism. He was awarded the 1934 Premio Atenea and 1942, the Premio Nacional de Literatura de Chile.

Life

Augusto d' Halmar was born the son of a French sailor and a Chilean. His father left his mother before he was born. When he was ten years old, his mother died. In 1899 he left school and devoted himself to writing. His pseudonym d' Halmar he took over from a great-grandfather of Swedish origin.

From 1900 he worked as an editor at the magazine Luz y Sombra, later in various other magazines. He was also secretary of the Foreign Minister Federico Puga Borne, of which he was appointed Consul General of Chile in Hindustan ( 1907-1909 ) and Peru appointed ( to 1915 ). He then lived for several years in Spain, where he was active literary activities.

1950 died d' Halmar. His grave inscription reads: No vi nada, sino el mundo; nada me paso, sino la vida.
