Augustus Meineke

Johann Albrecht Friedrich August Meineke (also Augustus Meineke; born December 8, 1790 in Soest, † December 12, 1870 in Berlin) was a German classical scholar.

Life

Meineke was in 1817 rector of the high school Academic Gymnasium Danzig and from 1826 to 1856 director of the Joachimsthal'schen school. His life's work was the issue of Fragmenta Comicorum Graecorum (1839-1857), an unsurpassed for its time edition of the fragments of all the Greek comic poet.

Since 1899, bears the Meineke in Charlottenburg and Wilmersdorf, which runs between the Kurfürstendamm and the Schaperstraße and at the former high school Joachimsthal'schen ends his name.
