Australian and International Pilots Association

The Australian and International Pilots Association ( AIPA ) ( German: Pilot Association for Australian and international flight routes ), which was founded in 1981, is a trade union which organizes the interests of around 2,500 pilots in Australia 2011. The AIPA is understood according to their own understanding as a "professional Association and federally registered organization" ( German: " professional association with nationwide approval" ) and not use the term union. AIPA organized Australian pilots of airlines Qantas Airways, Jetstar Airways, Eastern Australia Airlines and Sunstate Airlines operate the domestic and international air routes.

History

The AIPA came out in the early 1980s from the Australian Federation of Air Pilots ( AFAP ) and in 1986 was registered as a trade union organization. In May 2007, the Australian Industrial Relations Commission issued an order that the pilots from Jetstar have the choice of either the AFAP or join AIPA.

Memberships

AIPA is a member of the Australian Council of Trade Unions ( ACTU ) with 46 Australian unions and the International Federation of Air Line Pilots ' Associations ( IFALPA ), which consists of 93 unions. AIPA is also a member of the Oneworld Cockpit Crew Coalition, in which pilots of airlines Qantas, Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Lan Chile, Iberia, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Malev, Japan Airlines and Mexicana. AIPA is the International Transport Workers' Federation joined an international transport union, which summarizes the umbrella organization in 155 countries with 749 unions 4,600,000 transport workers.

Organizational structure and objectives

AIPA is run by a management committee of 40 pilots, who are elected. Be elected from among the Committee, the President, four Vice-Presidents, a Secretary and a Treasurer.

The objectives pursued by the organized pilots are task performance by qualification, pay for accountability, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, effective and efficient task completion.

2011

The AIPA has set 2011 claims to increase the pilot salary and job security in February. As Qantas is not willing to follow the requirements, planning the AIPA have been established that the requirements could be enforced in a pilot strike.

If there would be a strike, this would be the first after 45 years.
