Australian Football International Cup

The Australian Football International Cup is an Australian Rules Football Tournament, which virtually forms the World Cup for all countries outside of Australia ( the only country where the sport is practiced professionally ). The first International Cups were held in Melbourne and Warrnambool in 2002 and 2005 in Melbourne and Wangaratta and in August and September 2008.

History

The first International Australian Football Council ( IAFC ) was founded in 1995 in Darwin. Australian Football is currently played by some international teams at the Arafura Games. One of the goals of the IAFC, the event was an Australian football World Cup, expected 2008.

Due to the rapid growth of leagues and clubs in new countries, the first Cup in 2002 was held. The IAFC has asked the Australian Football League for financial and logistical support, the AFL but asked for a name change to International Cup World Cup.

International Cup 2002

Eleven teams took part in the first Cup: Japan, South Africa, Denmark, the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Nauru, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. All matches were played in Melbourne and Geelong.

Ireland beat Papua New Guinea 51-19 in the final.

International Cup 2005

For financial reasons, could not attend Nauru and Denmark on the second cup. As a freshman, but Spain came about and the ten teams were divided into two groups.

New Zealand won the final against Papua New Guinea 50-32.

International Cup 2008

16 teams took part in the IC 2008. In addition to the countries that have been previously represented in the IC, were still in Sweden, Finland, China, India, and Israel - Palestine to newcomers.

Papua New Guinea won the final 54-46 against New Zealand.
