Australian Mathematical Society

The Australian Mathematical Society ( Aust MS ) is the national Australian Mathematical Society.

It was founded in 1956, according to plans, which began in 1952. The founding members were, among others, Thomas Gerald Room and George Szekeres. Seat is the Australian National University.

The Department of Applied Mathematics is represented in it by the ANZIAM ( Australia and New Zealand Industrial and Applied Mathematics ).

The company is the Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society ( JAustMS, founded in 1959, in two series A and B, Part A - Pure Mathematics and Statistics - continues today as a journal AustMS ), the ANZIAM Journal (formerly the series B of JAustMS, Applied Mathematics ), the Bulletin of the AustMS and the Gazette of the Australian Mathematical Society out.

Since 1981, it has presented for outstanding research achievements of its members ( age 40 years) the Australian Mathematical Society Medal. It is awarded at the annual meeting of the Company. Since 2001, she gives the George Szekeres Medal every two years (even-numbered years for outstanding work over the past 15 years) and also the ANZIAM Medal, Mahler Lectureship, the Bernhard Neumann Prize and the JH Michell Medal.

The Company is also connected to the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers ( AAMT ), the Statistical Society of Australian Inc. ( SSAI ) and founded in 2002, Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute ( AMSI ).
