Austria at the 1936 Winter Olympics

Austria took part in the IV Olympic Winter Games in 1936 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen with a delegation of 60 athletes participate.

For the first time alpine ski races were held. This led to disputes with the International Ski Federation, because the IOC in contrast to the FIS rules did not allow instructors to participate as professionals. For this reason, decided the Austrian (like the Swiss ) Ski Association to boycott the games. For Austria, among others, Heinrich Harrer in the alpine ski races (downhill and slalom) should participate.
