The Autocar Co. Ltd.. was established in 1957 in Haifa Israeli automobile manufacturers. Were produced passenger cars and vans under the brand name Sabra (Hebrew: צברה ).

History

In the initial phase, the company worked closely with the British company Reliant, a pioneer in the manufacture of plastic bodies in the automotive industry. The components were manufactured in England and shipped as kits to Israel. Manufactured since 1960, was initially a simple combination with a plastic body on a box frame, the 1- liter engine derived from the Ford Anglia and performed in the standard version, 39 hp SAE. The design allowed the production of several body styles. Since the early 1960s, a licensed version of the two-seat open sports car Reliant Sabre under the name also was offered " Sabra Sport". The 1.7 -liter engine was acquired by the Ford Consul, he performed in the original version 61 hp SAE, but were later versions with up to 91 hp available. In 1962, the offer was extended. Since 1966, there have been models Gilboa TR 12/50 and Sussita TR with a larger body than its predecessors. The engines now came from the Triumph Herald and initially contributed 51 DIN hp. The production of the sports car was abandoned in 1968. In 1971, the cooperation with British Leyland was terminated. Offers have since been a sedan that was available with two or four doors, a fact -based cluster and a van. The 1.3 -liter engines were from Chrysler - Simca, later engines of the Ford Escort were installed. 1974 auto Cars was acquired by Rome Carmel Industries, the cars were now sold under brand name of Rome. Larger numbers never reached the production, and also undertaken since the early 1960s, attempts to export the car, had little success. 1970 to 1300 copies have been produced, for the year 1979 of an output of 1,500 vehicles and approximately 500 employees of the question. Beginning of the 1980s, the brand finally disappeared from the market. 1980 was the last full year of production, no later than 1982, the last cars were produced.
