At junction Cimpello the feeder road RA16 branches. Here is the beginning of a planned motorway will be linking the A28 with the A23 at Gemona del Friuli.

Then she runs eastward at Sacile past where it again enters the Veneto. Passing Godega Urbano it opens in Conegliano in the A27.

History and Significance

The A28 includes primarily the industrial city of Pordenone at the motorway network a. In addition, you can reach through a connection to the A27, a significant shortening of the distance Belluno -Trieste, since Venice is north bypass.

As early as 31 December 1974, the section between Portogruaro and Pordenone was opened, which makes up the majority of the race. Further extensions followed by 1992 ( Pordenone Fontanafredda ), 1994 ( Fontanafredda - Sacile ), 1996 ( Sacile Est - Ovest ) and 2006 to Godega San't Urbano.

Following the A27

The connection to the A27 at Conegliano was originally scheduled for summer 2010.

On 30 July 2010 the A28 between Portogruaro and Conegliano was opened with restrictions. The highway was opened 30 July to 23 October 2010, only between Friday and Sunday 14:00 to 22:00. This was done to relieve the completely congested A4 between Portogruaro and Venice, there is an increased volume of traffic especially on weekends available in the seaside resorts of the Adriatic coast. At the Passante di Mestre ( A4) of the traffic will be diverted via the A27 and the A28, to be introduced back into the A4 at Portogruaro. Conegliano direction was the A28 - as before - open up to the junction Sacile Ovest.

Originally, the highway should be completely opened a lot sooner. Reason for the decades-long delays were disputes between environmentalists and the project proponents. The A28 crosses in their section of several so-called Palu (natural, small streams ).

The last section of the A28 was opened by 15 clock on October 23, 2010. This ends the 38 years -long controversy between environmentalists and the motorway supporters.
