Available Light

Available Light (Eng. available light, available light ) means in photography or in film and television, that admission despite unfavorable light conditions (eg shooting in twilight or in poorly lit interiors ) with only those anyway, even without photographic or film recordings available light sources at the pickup location ( the available light ) is working. In additional lighting such as flash light or headlamp is omitted. This kind of photography " respects " the lighting situation of a place.

Available-light shots can be aesthetic or artistic decisions arise or be forced by circumstances, such as extra lighting at the pickup location ( Location) would interfere. A common application is the concert photography. The available-light photography is particularly suited to reflect the light mood of a subject's authentic. The cinematic no artificial light sources for artistic reasons, for example, part of the Dogma 95 manifesto.

In contrast to night photography, available light photography is not limited to certain times of day. Normally, no need for a tripod, high speed films or digital cameras with high ISO sensitivity and particularly fast lenses are used instead. If you are working with "normal" equipment, the relatively long exposure times lead to the long exposures associated with problems that place high demands on the photographer. The jitter can be minimized by circulation of the camera on a used as a "tripod " object and an image stabilization to avoid unwanted motion blur - for example, of people - but remains as a further difficulty. Additional challenges for the photographer / cameraman are a high contrast range of the subject as well as mixed light ( for example, by light sources with different color temperatures ).
