Avguštin Stegenšek

Avguštin Stegenšek (* July 7, 1875 in Tüffer, Lower Styria, Slovenia today, † March 21, 1920 in Maribor) was a Roman Catholic theologian, the Slovenian philosopher and art historian.

Life

After completed theological studies in Maribor, he went to Rome, where he studied archeology and art history. At the Faculty of Philosophy in Graz in 1906 he received his doctorate of philosophy. He worked with the historical society, because the Central Commission for Monuments Protection in Vienna ordered him an honorary curator in the Duchy of Styria. Stegenšek is the pioneer of the monument customer in the Slovenian territory. He founded the monumental work " Cerkveni spomeniki lavantinske Škofije " (the church monuments of lavanteinischen diocese ), which he illustrated with his own photographs and drawings, and also published and edited.
