History

Avianca Brazil was founded in 1998 under the name OceanAir as a taxi for the airline operating in the Campos Basin oil companies. In 2002 she also began scheduled flights between São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Macaé and Campos. To increase awareness of the airline launched shortly thereafter with a flight from São Paulo - Congonhas and Rio -Santos Dumont with a stopover at the airport São Paulo - Guarulhos to facilitate passengers to connect to the major hubs. The fare between the airports of São Paulo was cheaper than a taxi ride and like a luxury bus ride. The service was set again in the meantime.

Since the Synergy Group 2004 Avianca took over, OceanAir flies as a feeder for them in Brazil. In early 2010 it was finally renamed Avianca Brazil. Avianca Brazil is the fourth largest airline in passenger volumes and a market share of 5.1 % in Brazil.

In the second quarter of 2014 Avianca Brazil will join the Star Alliance.
