Aviernoz

Aviernoz is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Aviernoz is located at 760 m above sea level. M., near Thorens- Glières, about 11 km northeast of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends into a small valley and dip between valley systems of Filière and Crenant, at the edge of the Alps in the northwest foot of the massif of the Tête du Parmelan, in Genevois.

The area of ​​15.90 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The northern boundary runs along the Filière (right tributary of the Fier ), which emerges here from a basin of Bornes Alps and flows through an open valley to the west. From the river, the community area extends southward over the saddle of Aviernoz and the plateau of Les Ollières to the little valley of the Crenant. The entire southeastern part of the area is occupied by the mountain complex of the Tête du Parmelan. The densely wooded, steep mountain slopes are dominated by characteristic Kalkfelswänden, including the Tête de Bunant (1660 m above sea level. M. ) and the Plan de l' Aigle ( with 1676 m above sea. M. the highest elevation of Aviernoz ). On the high plateau of the Tête du Parmelan a rough carts box is marked, which is among the largest of its kind in the entire Alpine arc.

To Aviernoz next to the village itself includes various hamlet settlements and farmsteads, including:

  • Le Vuaz (630 m above sea level. M. ) in the Valley of Filière opposite of Thorens- Glières
  • Possy (670 m above sea level. M. ) on the southern flank of the Filière
  • Les Cotes (700 m above sea level. M. ) on the northern slope of the valley of the Crenant

Neighboring communities of Aviernoz are Thorens- Glières the north and east, Dingy- Saint- Clair and Villaz in the south and Ollières in the West.

History

The village is mentioned in the Middle Ages under the name Aviernnaz. For later times the names Vernod and Vernoud have survived. The place name may be traced back to the Old French word verne ( black alder ). To a larger area change occurred in 1869, when the hamlet of Le Jourdil separated with the southwest side of the valley of the Filière of Aviernoz and Thorens- Glières was assigned.

Attractions

In 1896, the village church of Aviernoz was built. The former Château des Côtes now serves as stately farmhouse.

Population

With 779 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Aviernoz one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Aviernoz counted 626 inhabitants). Since the mid- 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Aviernoz was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Otherwise, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in space Annecy their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Annecy- le -Vieux by Thorens- Glières. Another road connection with Ollières. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 13 km.
