Axillary lines

The axillary folds (Latin linea axillary ) are imaginary lines along the upper body vertically, starting from certain points of the armpit.

There are three axillary folds:

  • Anterior axillary line ( anterior axillary line ) perpendicular from the highest point of the anterior axillary fold, which is formed by the pectoralis major
  • Mid-axillary ( midaxillary line ) perpendicular from the highest point of the armpit or the middle of the armpit to bottom
  • Posterior axillary line ( posterior axillary line ) runs from the highest point of the posterior axillary fold, which is formed by the latissimus dorsi and teres major, vertically downwards
