Azellus Denis

Azellus Denis PC QC ( born March 26, 1907 in Saint- Norbert, Quebec, † September 4, 1991 ) was a Canadian lawyer and politician of the Liberal Party of Canada, which had a total of nearly 56 years Member of the House of Commons and Member of the Senate and Minister temporarily.

Life

After schooling Denis graduated, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). Another study of law at the University of Montreal, he finished with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ) and then took up a career as a lawyer. In the meantime, he did his military service 2nd Reserve Battalion of the Regiment Châteauguay.

In the general election of 14 October 1935, he was first elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party as a delegate in the House of Commons and represented there until his mandate resignation on February 3, 1964 the constituency of Saint- Denis. On April 22, 1963 by Prime Minister Lester Pearson Denis was as Postmaster ( Postmaster General ) appointed to the Canadian Cabinet and 19 belonged to this until his resignation on 2 February 1964.

After retiring from the government and the House of Commons on 3 February 1964, he became a member of the Senate on the recommendation of Prime Minister Pearson. Since his appointment took place before the entry into force of the British North America Act of 1965, did not apply the automatic constitutional age limit of 75 years, so he was a member of the Senate until his death on September 4, 1991, there took the Senate District La Salle.

At the time of his death he was nearly 56 years at the Parliament of Canada.

His older brother Joseph- Arthur Denis was also a deputy and represented from 1922 until his death, also the constituency of Saint- Denis in the House.
