Azinhal is a comune ( Freguesia ) at the Portuguese circuit ( concelho ) of Castro Marim, Algarve. 522 inhabitants live in it (as at 30 June 2011).
History
According to the history of the entire circle was probably also Azinhal prehistoric settlement area before it became part of the Roman province of Lusitania. After the invasion of Germanic tribes in the 5th century AD, the Moors conquered the region in the early 8th century. During the Reconquista Paio Peres Correia conquered today the district of Castro Marim in 1242, the king D.Afonso III. in 1277 for the first time gave the city rights.
In the 18th century Azinhal was a separate municipality.
